Windsor in the Sun

Windsor Collage

Last week I went on a training course to Windsor and each afternoon, at the end of the work day, I got the opportunity to wander around Windsor and Eton in the glorious sunshine before I got my train back to Oxford.

Windsor is a very quaint and typically British city and is widely known as the site of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the British Royal Family. As you can imagine, with just a week to go until the Jubilee weekend, the town was covered in Union Jack bunting.

Windsor has a lovely selection of shops, cafes and restaurants, as well as being situated on the River Thames with boat trips available to nearby attractions such as Henley or Marlow. I’ll admit to having a Mr. Whippy (icecream cone to my non-UK readers) out in the sunshine as I soaked up the atmosphere of this very pretty town.

I actually took more photos of Eton High Street than Windsor itself, and I’ll post these over the weekend. I’ll also share with you photos of a couple of independent boutique tours ….

  1. Lovely pics Sophie! Windsor and Eton are beautiful and well worth a visit. Bit blustery today but there’s so much to do and see – it’s a great place to lie and work :)

  2. Windsor is so gorgeous! It makes you feel like you’ve gone back in time a little bit. Although this is very pedantic of me, but who made the signs! Taxis doesn’t need an apostrophe! If even Windsor council can’t get it right, what hope is there for the rest of us…?

    ;)

  3. I love Windsor, I love Eton. That’s what makes England so quintessentially British. Quaint, pretty, sophisticated and now we are celebrating 60 years of a wonderful monarchy. I say, go m’am… x

  4. Oh! I’ve never been to Windsor but it’s on my list of cities to visit! I love Great Britain so much – it’s my dream to live there half of the year – I live in Virginia (USA) and love it too… but even though I’m American my heart is in the UK! Thanks for sharing these great pics – can’t wait to see the rest. Happy Jubilee weekend!!! Cheers! ~ Jennifer
