Rockett St George

I’ve been having a hoot recently browsing the website of the funky homewares label Rockett St George. This online store takes modern vintage to a whole new level.

1. Amazing Bottle Chandelier

2. ‘Ceci N’est Pas Un Livre’ Woman Self Shelf in White

3. Reproduction Vintaged Chair in Blue

4. Adjustable Industrial Round Dining Table with Distressed Wooden Table Top

I love their eclectic mix of vintage industrial pieces and unusual modern items. They feature unique homewares using upcycled materials as well as iconic furniture from well known designers.

Rockett St George can be found on twitter, facebook and even have their own blog. If you’re not familiar with them yet, I recommend you get acquainted …

Roost Interiors

I recently stumbled upon the chic little boutique Roost Interiors on Eton highstreet and had to share with you some photos of the the store. Co-owner Helen very kindly showed me around …

Roost is full pretty finds – from antique-style glassware to shabby-chic furniture. I usually go mad for colour but I felt really relaxed amongst all the pale and pretty muted tones on display.

Hindsvik House Tour

Today I want to share with you some images of the beautiful home belonging to Daniel Garbutt and Valeria Herner. The pair, who live in Ontario, Canada, write about renovating and redecorating their vintage modern home, as well as sharing home decor, interior and design inspiration. Their blog is Hindsvik At Home and they also run the Hindsvik Shop, which stocks everything from classic vintage designer furniture pieces to small kitchen items and accessories for the home.

Hindsvik Living Room

Hindsvik Living Room

I love this corner of Daniel and Valeria’s living room. Their functional white interiors are cleverly highlighted with pops of colour and texture to make the spaces more interesting and homely. The old metal trolley is perfect for holding the various items for display. The grand typewriter is a Remington #16, which they blogged about here.

Vintage items adorn Daniel and Valeria’s home, including things they had originally obtained for their shop but loved so much they couldn’t part with, like the little red Swedish Dala horse above.

Hindsvik Kitchen

The Hindsvik Kitchen is full of wonderful vintage and retro kitchenware, some pieces in bright colours like the pretty green vintage creamer above, with others more rustic and natural in texture and materials.

Hindsvik Master Bedroom

Further vintage items adorn the dressing space of the master bedroom, including the chair and another dala horse. The area is put to good use with a full length mirror and clothing storage.

Hindsvik Office

Hindsvik Office

I love the mixture of vintage and modern in the Hindsvik Office. A retro touch button calculator sits happily on the stark white desk alongside the simple contemporary design of an Apple Mac.

Hindsvik Office Desk

I adore these huge vintage industrial lockers, used here as extra storage space in the office area. Their utilitarianism is softened with the juxtaposition of the decorative 1960s moon globes and antique natural history prints.

Colour is added to the bathroom with a spot of greenery against the bright white surfaces. Again little vintage touches are introduced, like the use of this Nymolle saucer as a soap dish.

Hindsvik Reclaimed Wood and Pipe Shelving Unit

Hindsvik Reclaimed Wood and Pipe Shelving Unit

This shelving unit was the first piece of furniture made by Daniel and Valeria. Isn’t it gorgeous?! The unit features a couple of shelves and a cupboard for extra storage space. The arrangement of items on the middle shelf is the couple’s growing collection of West German pottery.

There is a distinctly Scandinavian feel to this home but the eclectic mix of materials, japanese influences and collections of vintage and antique items prevent it from being easily labelled in one interior-design category. I think it’s fabulous! What do you think of the Hindsvik Home?

I thought you might also like to see this pretty video made by Pascal Perich featuring the house on Etsy. The couple look and sound at peace in their tranquil home.

The Old Cinema

You may remember the other week I made a visit to The Old Cinema and wrote about it here. I’ve just come across this sweet little video highlighting the store and had to share it with you. It really is an Aladdin’s cave of vintage wonders!

Upcycled at The Old Cinema

On Saturday I had a wander around Chiswick and visited the Upcycled exhibition at The Old Cinema on Chiswick High Road.

Upcycled Sack Armchair by Kelly Swallow

There were some really fascinating pieces of furniture that featured upcycled elements. I love the above patchwork chair by Kelly Swallow. Kelly’s work featured varying fabrics from the subtle natural tones of the seating above, to quite elaborate brightly coloured textiles. She chooses an eclectic mix of vintage and designer fabrics.

Upcycled Sideboard by Lucy Turner

I completely fell in love with the work by Lucy Turner. Lucy specialises in  customizing and transforming mid-century furniture with the clever use of laser cut Formica laminate, which she applies on the surface. She chooses playful shapes for the cut-outs, producing quite a retro feel.

Upcycled Mesh by Ines Cole

The exhibition also featured items by collective team Ines Cole. The wire mesh above has been transformed into a display backdrop for hanging other vintage items.

Upcycled Tube Map Cushions by Hunted and Stuffed

Above you can see the quirky and fun upcycled tea-towel cushions from Hunted and Stuffed, who I featured in my Etsy Focus post last week. These particular offerings feature the London underground map.

Upcycled Furniture by Lucy Turner

I really enjoyed snooping around The Old Cinema. Along with the upcycled exhibition pieces, the venue sells a wide variety of vintage furniture, decorative arts, jewellery and lighting. They claim to be London’s only department store devoted to selling antique, vintage, retro, industrial and upcycled furniture – sounds like my kind of place! I’ll certainly be stopping by again soon.

The Living Etc North London House Tour

On Friday I had the pleasure of attending the North London House Tour organised by Living Etc.

Five creative women, all with an interest in beautiful homes, decided to set off around North London to see how the other half live and thanks to Tina offering to drive us, we were able to zip between houses with ease. The tours are, however, designed in such a way that you can walk between the houses or make quick journeys between them using public transport. We were pretty exhausted by the end of the day and we were all very grateful for not having to do too much walking.

Willoughby Road, Hampstead - Living Etc House Tour

Jo Berryman Kitchen

We started off in Hampstead and viewed the creatively furnished homes of Joanna Berryman and Rory Dobner. Joanna’s abode was a very feminine and artistic townhouse. She had a fantastic free standing bath in her bedroom and a walk in wardrobe, I was also quite envious of her two fabulous Helmut Lang photographs.

Rory Dobner Bedroom - Living Etc North London House Tour

Rory Dobner Bedroom

Rory Dobner’s home  in Lutton Terrace, Hampstead, was a really interesting space. He and his partner had bought a flat 10 years ago, and ever since have been excavating out into the surrounding flats and land beside them. The result is an intriguing maze of compact rooms; the home feels somewhat like a labyrinth! The decor would make David Bowie proud too – with fantastical creatures galore! Rory is an artist and designer and his home was filled with brilliant examples of his technical and imaginative drawing skill.

James Wright Bathroom - Living Etc North London House Tour

James Wright Bathroom

I must admit the remaining four houses we managed to see in the time are a bit of a blur in my memory – lots of white walls, Scandinavian influences and very similar flooring throughout. They were clearly the homes of architects. There were a few pops of colour and interesting art pieces amongst the white, and ‘The Jewel Box’ property by Fraher architects featured a beautiful little office space overlooking a small water feature – a treat in central London.

I really enjoyed this opportunity to see inside some of the homes that have been featured in a national interiors magazine and contemplate the reasons why and what I liked most about them. It really reinforced my love of colour and furnishings, as well as personal art selection.

At the time of writing there were still tickets for the second of the tours – The West London House Tour on Friday 23rd March, 10am-4pm. Visit the booking page for more details.

MyDeco Blog – Some exciting news!

I’ve something really exciting to share with you all today. I’ve recently been asked to guest blog for another interior design blog!

Have you come across the mydeco website? If not, I’d like to introduce you to it now. Mydeco is an online boutique where you can browse through a range of unique furniture, home accessories and gifts. You can also use a variety of interactive tools to help design your home. I’ve been asked to become an official mydeco blogger and I’ll be writing once a fortnight.

Daniel Nelson of Atelier Tally and Heart Home Magazine, who is also the Social Media Marketing Manager for mydeco got in touch and asked if i’d like to be one of a small group of bloggers to post for the newly redesigned mydeco blog. Of course I jumped at the chance!

I can’t tell you how excited I am to be asked to post for another website, in fact it’s one of my 2012 goals ticked off.

My first post, which went live today, is timed for Pancake Day – concerning a mydeco product – the mysqueeze – and you can read the post here.

Also, check out this fantastic short film by Mark Tintner, commissioned to advertise the mysqueeze – it puts juicing in a whole new light!
