Sunday Brunch

Oxford Snow

Hello friends. How has your week been? I’ve spent much of it curled up keeping warm and nursing a bad back, but have been pleasantly surprised this weekend by the nice weather and rise in temperature.

I went out and purchased a vintage Art Deco desk from a charity shop near where I live yesterday (pictures to follow when I’ve picked it up and brought it home!) There seems to be an increase in charity shops specialising in vintage clothing and homewares recently – something I’m more than happy about!

See below for links to a few fun things that have caught my eye this week….

Etsy Focus – Atomic Attic – Revisited

Around this time last year, when I was first starting out with this blog I featured an Etsy shop in my weekly Etsy Focus post called Atomic Attic. You can see the post here. At the time this shop mostly featured these amazing pet beds created out of vintage suitcases and I just fell in love with their totally quirky style! Whilst looking for a shop to feature this week I looked back over my old posts and decided to pay a few another visit to see what they’re up to now. Well I’m pleased to say that Atomic Attic have expanded vastly in the last year and are now stocking all kinds of exciting upcycled items. I thought it was worth revisiting them, since they’re no longer just about pet beds. Let’s take a look around ….

Upcycled Reclaimed Barn Wood Coat Rack

Upcycled Reclaimed Barn Wood Coat Rack

I really like this interesting coat rack and storage unit – great for displaying little trinkets as well as hanging up your jackets! It’s made from a variety of salvaged items including a 1950s Kenmore stove back.

Atomic Attic are based in the USA – in Siletz, Oregon (the Pacific Northwest) and is a husband and wife team of Miles and Aimee. They say of their store:

“Vintage items have a honesty that we’re drawn to. Unique character traits that the “new” don’t seem to have. Learned through the years or instilled on conception? I don’t know, but I wonder. Not to mention, the quality of craftsmanship which these days seems to be non-existent. We take pride in everything we do, and expect nothing less from anyone or anything. Just seems like the bar was a bit higher back then.

Miles got the opportunity to tear down a 100 year old barn locally. He’s turned the rustic, worn wood into modern pieces of furniture and home decor.”

Upcycled Rotary Phone Birdhouse

I love this one-of-a-kind upcycled birdhouse made from a vintage Stromberg-Carlson rotary phone.  The inside is hollowed out, just the metal shell remains.

Gift Certificates for Atomic Attic on Etsy

If you’re buying for someone else but can’t quite decide what to purchase Atomic Attic helpfully offer gift certificates.

Upcycled Apple Computer Pet Bed

Upcycled Apple Computer Pet Bed

I couldn’t leave Atomic Attic behind without featuring another one of their unique pet bed designs. This time they’ve cleverly upcycled an iMac Apple Computer, kitting it out with plaid bedding. This kitty looks pretty pleased with it!

For those of you who love a bit of Facebook, Atomic Attic have their own page here. Sadly it seems Atomic Attic only currently ship within the US, so I hope this post is of interest to my friends across the pond! Scrap that! – I’ve just spoken to Atomic Attic who tell me they ship internationally – hooray!

Pop back next week when I’ll have another Etsy Focus post for you.

Etsy Focus – The Cupcake Kid

I am finally back after an impromptu two month absence (more on that later) with an Etsy Focus post on The Cupcake Kid – a fab little vintage and handmade store based in Washington DC, USA.

This store features a great selection of quirky vintage items for your kitchen, desk-top and more.

How cute are these letterpress blocks?! I’d love to build a whole collection of them. The Cupcake Kid has curated a great selection of vintage letters.

“Pretty and colorful vintage and handmade: cups, necklaces, pins, bags, earrings, collectibles, pottery, letterpress wood blocks, home decor and more. Beautifully packaged and promptly mailed from Washington DC.”

Vintage Orange and Yellow Flower Pitcher

I love this fun and bright vintage creamer/pitcher. It would certainly liven up my kitchen! It is estimated to be from the 1960s or 1970s and marked ”Frolic from the Avant-Garde Collection Japan”.

Previews of new items going into the store are listed on The Cupcake Kid Tumblr.

Sunday Brunch

Frame Details

Happy Sunday folks! It’s July! Wow crikey where is the year going? I hope you’ve all had a good week. It’s been another crazy busy one in the day job for me. I’ve been at work lots this week long after I should have been, so I’ve not spent much time trawling the internet for great finds. Hence, a slightly shorter blog list than usual…..but I hope you enjoy the gems I have found….

Etsy Focus – Falcon and Finch

This week my Etsy Focus features a great vintage store called Falcon and Finch. If you like old cameras, it’s definitely worth a look – the store is full of them! The shop also has a a good selection of antique and vintage silverware and a host of mixed vintage homewares.

Falcon and Finch: “lost treasures found, new memories made, vintage magic supplied to every day life.”

“At Falcon and Finch we love the orphan, the strange, the lost and found and lost again, the tarnished, the injured, the small things overlooked, the underdog, the left behind and the oft forgotten. We know the giddiness of a new home, a fresh place, and we know the deep joy of an old family home, filled with much loved memories.”

“We are a family of martial artists, artists, animal lovers.

We are partners on a mission to preserve ways that are quickly becoming outmoded and left behind: old fashioned wet room photography, story telling, and family style martial arts systems. At any given time you may hear us debating dark room techniques, folklore or fairy tales, or the best way to break a sleeper hold against a larger opponent.

This need to preserve old ways has brought us to a passionate affection for old cameras, tarnished silver, lost pieces of china. We love history and the way time rolls over objects and leaves their mark.”

Falcon and Finch has a Facebook page and even it’s own blog – both of which are worth a look for more vintage inspiration.

The store is having a father’s day sale and ships around the world so it’s worth a look for a unique gift.

Etsy Focus – Flying Ace

This week my Etsy Focus post features the lovely little vintage store called Flying Ace, owned by Ashley of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Sunday Brunch

Windsor Street

Happy Sunday folks!

This last week has been all about reliving The Hive and getting in touch will all the lovely people I met last weekend. There was a plethora of great posts reviewing the conference and I’ve listed a few of them below:

In my day job this week I had to go on a four day health & safety management course (exciting times!). This involved me getting up at 5am every day to cycle to the trainstation, then take three different trains and a taxi to the venue. The upside is that the venue was in Windsor and at the end of each day I could wander around this beautiful city in the sunshine! I will show you some more pictures next week, but in the meantime, you know why there is one above!

Now on to my favourite blog posts of the week across blogland……
